refurbishing martec propellers
Information On Refurbishing Martec Folding PropellersTypically the propellers should be refurbished after time (approx 4-10 years, depending on the environment the prop lives in, amount/type of use, the size of prop, number of different operators.)
Reconditioning of your folding propeller will correct functioning problems with the propeller — including opening and closing, and vibration issues. Please note: that if after refurbishing the propeller you still experience functioning problems, these maybe related to wear and maintenance issues in some models of transmissions.
What is involved in a refurbish:1. Basic refurbish - clean, track and balance.2. Re-drill pivot pin hole and install new oversized Monel pivot pin. You may notice that you are getting a bit of vibration, this is due to the blades and hub becoming loose. By re-drilling the pivot pin hole and installing a new oversized pivot pin this will tighten the blades to the hub, thus getting rid of the vibration issue. 3. Weld up stops and boss (when the blades are open, they should be opened 90 degrees from the hub, no further)4. Also if the blades touch when closed, that tells you that one of the blades is off its axis point and it typically will have a challenge opening. This is when tracking the blades is absolutely necessary. 5. Included is a new set (4) of Monel cotter pins.Approx cost of a refurbish $325.00-$400.00 + shipping and handling (depending on size and what needs to be done to it)6. We can refurbish a prop in approx. 1 week or sooner if need be. Please send the following parts to Martec: (1) pair of propeller blades (1) hub (big piece which slides over shaft & attaches to blades) (1) pivot pin (possible to re-use) Please keep the shaft nut and key. These are not needed during re-conditioning but are important for the re-installation. We are out of stock of shaft nuts - so it's very important to make sure you have it (sometimes people just leave them on the shaft or inside the hub for safe keeping) Martec will return the refurbished propeller with a new set of cotter pins.
Include a note providing the following information:1. Physical ship to address (we ship via UPS Ground unless otherwise specified)2. Phone number3. Information on what you want done, including any information on specific challenges you are having with the propeller.4. Actual date (example: May 15, 2025) you need the prop in your hands by. 5. We will also need a credit card, expiration date, (3) digit security code, the card will not be charged until shipping the propeller back.
When shipping it back please make sure you insure the propeller, just in case it is lost in transit. Also, remember to separate the hub and blades then wrap each well, and include extra packing at each end of the box. Ship to: (Do not send the propeller with signature required - we live 20 miles out of town and this will increase leadtime if we need to go into the post office/UPS Store) Martec Prop Service, LLC 14520 N Music Trail, Prescott, AZ 86305 Thank you
